Hello all,
I bring you tales from the summit.
Basically, a summit to showcase how our state government can help nurture the AVG industry here in Karnataka.
Lot of speakers... its all a blur. They all seemed so positive about the future even after a terrible show of over a decade. Their talks, laced with faith, hope, a promise for a better future ... etc etc seemed like their individual demonstrations of the
sola fide doctrine
( epic christian reference ... just cause its so cool to use that religion in a pagan majority country). Its brilliant that the whole Animation, Gaming and VFX
(the AVG of KAVG...) industry doesn't have a central body to represent its entirety. So you really can't blame a single entity for the screw ups.
Now, the best part of all this ... These guys . have gotten together .. to convince the mighty, omnipotent Government of Karnataka that they should really help them out in the coming future. Everybody had their chance to talk .. to contribute to the
"why our noble superpowerful awesome state government should help me.. I mean us"
Each "speaker" is pushing his/her agenda in the whole thing. Beats the whole idea
Again.. there is no central body to co ordinate or communicate with. ABAI can be the middle man at best.... but I am positive it can do nothing at the scale all these guys want their promises kept.
All in all, the summit boils down to a luckless, stupid, drunk gambler begging for the taxpayers money.
Anyway, I can bitch about these guys on and on ... but it does no good to me or my club. So I will come to more relevant things. Although, I do hope they prove me wrong for their own good.
Thank you Gargi and Diechief for helping me out there with the flier distribution and all. I am ever grateful to you guys. Although we didn't have a crowd to distribute like we had in ASIFA International Animation Day. Summit. Also, thanks to Raju and Aravind for getting the fliers printed and ready.
Met an IT couple, A yoga master, random animators, company heads ... even the director of "education initiatives" from NASSCOM. When I asked her for the solution to the supply-demand of quality education in AVG sectors... she went on and on about the problem rather than telling me what exactly they are trying to do overcome it. Its like in one of those really high level board meetings ... everyone restates the problem statement in different words and looks like they did a lot of groundwork and conclude that the situation is worse than it really is. If only she put that same effort into loosing a few pounds .. she could have atleast fit into those clothes she was wearing. A baby elephant if I ever saw one. The best I got out of that tub of lard was ... " the IT industry should create more inhouse software to help improve quality of animation and .... it should be based on a profit making business model" Bah.. I went back to bitching again. Again .. its upto her to prove me wrong.. for her own damn good.
Sadly couldn't meet any private investor :( I guess they realized this was a hopeless venture after all.
Diechief had some positive news on the other hand. He heard the word "manga and anime" being used in a sentence by someone in the speaker panel. I fished out his name and organization. Mr Krishna Desai, Director of Programming , South Asia , Turner Ltd. Diechief rewarded him with one of our club fliers.
Thats it from me. Never been this cynical my whole life.
